Weekend W.I.P.lash - No. 7
This weekend's edition comes to you all the way from the West Coast - happy Flock Fiber Fest weekend y'all!
Flock Fiber Festival is a newer yarn show that is hosted by La Mercerie (one of our amazing stockists!), and has become a stunner of an event. We are very excited to be graciously hosted in their booth this year, along with a couple other indie dyers. One of our favorite things about yarn shows and festivals is the way it brings our magical maker community together - to share ideas, meet and network with new people, and give your creative cup the overflow it deserves.
We've all been thinking about fall patterns and casting new things on (and plan to do a little - or a lot of - collecting while we're here...), so we've compiled a list of some patterns we're dreaming of, and hopefully it helps to inspire you as well. Do you tend to go to events like this with projects in mind or do you let the fiber (and all the addicting notions) speak to you? Let us know below!
convincing cast ons
Every week, we scour the knitting universe for new releases, hidden gems and timeless classics, ensuring you have a queue overflowing with irresistible projects. Newbie or seasoned knitter? We've got something for everyone. So, ditch the decision fatigue and let us lure you into a world of yarn-filled wonder!
FIRST UP: stowaway
by Wool & Pine
This drop shoulder + fair isle dream is one that most of us are ready to cast on! We can't say enough positive things about the shaping and intention behind the duo at Wool & Pine and this pattern is no exception. This pattern really allows your creativity and exploration with color to shine, and the combinations are endless.
Swanky DK is the star of the show here, and with the 80/10/10 blend of the Merino/Cashmere/Nylon, you'll be reaching for this classic all season long.
NUMBER 2: faux paux pullover
by Brienne Moody
Top-down raglan + lace = an absolute dream! Brienne knocks it out of the park again with the gorgeous lace detailing you'll find throughout this pullover. Its breezy construction ensures a swift knitting experience, resulting in a timeless piece perfect for layering or standalone wear.
Feather lace or Plume lace would be the perfect choice for this project. Feather offering you a fluffier mohair profile, while Plume's cashmere is more subtle, but both with phenomenal drape.
NUMBER 3: crystal fantasy
by Joji Locatelli
Joji's pattern are never short inspiration and engagement, and this pattern is no exception. Holding a fingering weight with a lace weight allows you to play with and blend colors, allowing you to create something new, beautiful, and uniquely your own. You would play with tone-on-tone, some high or low contrasting colors, or get the same colorway of speckled or variegated yarn, and your final result would be entirely captivating.
Swanky Sock or Solo Fingering would pair perfectly with Feather or Plume for this project. While Swanky's blend would lean towards a bit more drape and flow than Solo, both would lay beautifully in this wrap. Feather's mohair would eat up more space between your stitches, adding to the fluffy profile of the wrap, while the slimmer cashmere in Plume will allow it to be more airy.
NUMBER 4: elena pullover
by Claudia Quintanilla
The color blocked version of this sweater is so breathtaking! Claudia's eye for elegant detail is one of our favorites, and this stunner of a pullover is giving all the drama and sophistication your wardrobe could ever ask for.
Feather or Plume would be the perfect choice for this project and would offer many options for either a single color sweater or a color blocked beauty.
We hope this jumpstarted some ideas and inspo for your Flock Fiber Festival weekend. We really hope to see you all there. Don't forget to come by and say 'hi'!
Happy making!
