The 2024 Beav-a-long

Hello lovely Magpie Makers! Have you heard the news? The hibernation period is officially over, and it's time to get your beav on (yes, you read that right), because the 2024 Beav-a-long kicks off on March 24th and runs wild until June 1st. 

The Beav-a-long is our annual celebration of all things ridiculous and delightfully unpretentious. Remember, though the Magpies are a lil’ bit bougie, we're mostly ridiculous. And what better way to celebrate our delightfully ridiculous nature than with a make-a-long dedicated to beavers?!

Why beavers you ask?

Well, it all started with a single, nutty brown colorway that was part of a gradient that Dami cheekily named "Eager Beaver" and ya'll LOVED it, and thus began Magpie's glorious descent into beaver-themed madness. Evil Beaver, Spicy Beaver, Saturday Night Beaver...the list goes on, culminating in the glorious BIG BEAVER ENERGY we all know and love. (Yes, it means exactly what you think it does. We're not sorry. Because it's hilarious.)

And why stop at yarn when you can add beaver themed merch?! We have an incredible selection of beaver pins and stickers created by ShelliCan that were inspired by our beaver colorway names. Plus, some “beav-a-long" branded project bags for 'you on-the-go beavers' to keep your projects organized. And speaking of project bags, would y'all like to see the 'Big Beaver Energy' mugs and bags make a comeback this year? Let us know!

Alright, back to the beav-a-long!

Joining is easy, peasy, beaver squeezy! 

Step 1:

Just cast on any project – literally ANY PROJECT – and incorporate one of our glorious beaver colors. It can be the main course (MC) or a sassy little side dish (CC), your choice. Need a little beaver inspiration? Check out our suggestions in the gallery below.

Step 2:

Hop on over to our Facebook Beav-a-long group, and let the fun and inevitable beaver puns commence! This is where some of our favorite magic happens – a community of hilarious participants who will keep you laughing and brimming with creative joy throughout the entire event. This year, we're even planning a special BAL (Beav-A-Long) Zoom night (we'll poll for the best date after the BAL kicks off).

Step 3:

Share, create and encourage joyful making.

Step 4:

Post a picture of your FOs before Jun 2, 2024 to be entered to win some awesome prizes. This year we are doing something a little different. We will have one BIG GRAND PRIZE (that we are calling the GOLDEN BEAVER AWARD) and then five ADDITIONAL prizes as we will be giving to beav-a-long superlative winners! The additional prizes will be 

1. cheerleader beaver will be awarded to the most encouraging participant.

2. overachiever beaver will be awarded to the participant that is “doing the most” (but in the best way!)

3. social beaver will be awarded to the participant that is keeping the conversation going. 

4. witty beaver will be awarded to the person that makes us laugh the hardest.

5. voguing beaver will be awarded to the person with the best photo.
